Ponytail palm

When our ponytail palm finished flowering , the seeds on the flower started growing and formed into probably 50 baby palms up 8ft high on the old flower spike,when we got up on top of a 6ft ladder they all just fell off, they are between 3 &8″ with a fair bit of green leafy top and a nobby little base, every one i ask thinks I’m mad and that I’ve cut the growing centre out of the palm but haven’t touched the main canopy, this all formed on the flower spike itself, is this normal , thank you Pam Muller

Is there any way you could include a picture? This isn’t quite normal. Is there a possibility that the plant is mis-identified? Ponytail palms grow by offsets at the bottom of the base of the plant. The flower stalks yield seeds, and not usually live plants.

If you could send in a picture, it would help us to identify it better.
