ponytail palm

Mine has done well for several years. Recently it put out a light green center. After that it leaned sideways and seemed rotten at the stem. The bulb is solid so I took the top off. Is there any hope it will survive and put our leaves again?

If you have lost the entire top of the plant, it may not put out any other growth.
If it is a young plant, I have seen some reports of regrowth.
