Ponytail Palm Leaves Red/Brown on Ends

I inherited this ponytail palm bonsai from my mom’s friend over Christmas. I have been watering it about once every 2 weeks since then. I have not fertilized it yet. The ends of the leaves are brown and red. The previous owner said this was normal but I’d like a second opinion. His house was located close to the ocean, maybe 1/4 mile at the most (I read salt may cause this condition). I’m not sure if it was planted in a pot or just the ground. He had been watering every week in the winter and 2/week in the summer generally speaking. Also, he fertilized once a month or so with 30-30-30 miracle gro. Attached are some pictures. What do you think might cause this condition?

This sounds like too much water and fertilizing should only be needed two or three times a year.

Too much nitrogen build up in the soil can certainly cause the coloration changes and browning leaves. You can flush the soil to try to remove the excess salts from the soil.

Will the leaves regenerate or are they permanently browned?
