Pomegranates are semi drought tolerant and don't require much water. splitting is usually associated with excess or irregular watering. Remove any split fruit, and let the plant dry between waterings. Thinning the fruit if the plant is heavily laiden will allow for larger Pomegranates with a higher sugar content. Good Luck.
