poison ivy

I have hedges surrounding my home. Within those hedges are poison ivy. How do I get rid of the ivy without ruining the hedges?

The best solution I’ve found is to very carefully pull up as many plants as you can while wearing gloves and placing them directly into a garbage bag. If a plant is too big to pull up, then cut it off at the base and kill the stump with either boiling water or a dab of herbicide.
