Plum trees

I live in San Diego, Ca. I planted a plum tree early this summer. It seemed to be doing great, until recently it rained for about a day and half off and on, and now all the leaves are brown and crispy, dry on the edges. What can it be from?

If you have poor drainage, such as from compacted soil, heavy clay soil, or a patch of soil surrounded by sidewalk, the water could have formed puddles (you would have seen this happening) and damaged the roots. Otherwise, see this video for possible reasons for browning leaves:
