Q.Plum Tree Leaves Not Growing

Zone San Diego, CA | Sandy C added on August 9, 2020 | Answered

Tried multiple fruit tree fertilizers besides regular watering, but leaves are not growing at all. Used to be fine earlier, but for the last 2 years, no leaves have been growing. See posted photo. Any inputs would be helpful.

It could, very well, be due to the climate of your area. These trees are only hardy up to zone 8. San Diego spans zones 8-10, so there is a huge risk that your trees will not do well. If you live in the zone 8 area, you will have quite a bit of issue, since it does not get as cold as the trees will need in the winter time.

If you live anywhere but the zone 8 area, you will find it incredibly difficult to grow plums. It does not get anywhere near cold enough to support their growth. Unfortunately, the answer to this problem may be a different type of tree.

This article will offer information on the proper care of plums, which will help you to know the best way to try and keep it healthy:
