Planting within a tree stump in the UK

I have a stump of an old tree in my garden. I would like to hollow some of it out and use as a natural planter. I’m unsure what to plant though. I would like something that would hang over the sides. But I also like the idea of succulents. Not sure if they can be planted outdoors in the UK though and whether they would take to a stump planter. The location is sunny.

I am unfamiliar with your area, as we are based in the U.S. If you can include a little information about the climate, and as long as the tree was not a nut tree (these are toxic to most plants) then I will be more than glad to help you find a plant that will suit your needs.
