Planting tea rose in backyard

We get a lot of rain here in South Texas and I’ve tried planting roses along my fence but I believe the soil may have too much clay and doesn’t drain very quickly when it rains. I have much sandier soil right behind my house but, of course, the rain would pour off the roof near the roses. I just don’t want them to die this time. Please help.

Some of the most important things you can do for your roses is to get a soil test and to plant your roses where they can get maximum sunlight. The soil test is important so that you know where the best places to plant your roses will be and it will tell you what you need to do in order to improve the soil you have in order to grow roses. You can find and contact your local Texas Cooperative Extension Service for soil test guidance and advice for roses that do well in your area: http://www.pickyourown.org/PYO.php?URL=http%3A%2F%2Fnpic.orst.edu%2FmlrDetail.html%3Flang%3Den%26amp%3Bto%3DCEX%26amp%3Bstate%3DTX%23countyExtension [1]
