planting in winter in zone 5

hi. i have a patch of earth about eight feet long and three feet wide where weedy plants were pulled up. it’s right outside a front window in the front yard and i’d like to put something there now that will look nice over the winter and continue to live and thrive after the winter. i don’t want to spend much if possible. any suggestions?

Evergreen shrubs would be a good option for something that will look good in winter. Choose species and varieties that do well in zone 5, and plant them as soon as possible.
