Planting Hosta Under Maple Tree

I want to plant hosta under a maple tree in my front yard. There are a lot of roots. What is the best way to plant them?

If there are a lot of roots you may want to reconsider planting your hosta there as the roots could eventually choke it out and/or rob it of nutrients and moisture. Hosta roots do like to spread out and you want to be sure to give them the growing room to do so. If you do pursue planting your hosta under your maple tree, try to situate it at least a few feet away from the roots, if you can.
