Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comI read how I can kill the roots of a bush that chopped down but my question is, can I still plant flowers around the roots even though the roots are dying? I hope you know what I’m talking about. Will the dying of the roots effect the growing of the flowers?
Thank you,
Louise

If the roots are continuing to send up shoots this can become an issue crowding out your new plantings.
I would recommend you try to remove as much of the old shrubs root system.
This would be a good time then to make sure the soil condition is right for your new plants.
You and your new plants will be happier with a cleaner garden spot.
Here is a link about the process.
