Q.planting anything under trees with roots

Zone 9 - Louisiana | gaybaudin added on August 5, 2015 | Answered

We have tried to plant ferns and other things under a crepe myrtle whose roots are slightly underground. There is a short space of room between the ground and the crepe root in which to make room for the plantings What about ground cover? Does it have big roots which can’t go down either?
