Planting a tree

Hello, I am writing from Colombia.

My boyfriend passed away recently and his family wants to bury his ashes and plant a tree over them, I’ve explained to them that ashes are toxic for plant life, however, the possibility of using something like the Bios Urn or the alternatives is out of the picture because of the price. I was wondering if there is an alternative to this, let’s say burying a normal urn several feet underground, covering it with soil and then planting the tree above it.

I am sorry for your loss. Rest assured that your BF’s family can safely plant a tree over his ashes. To have a living memory of him is a beautiful idea. If ashes were toxic, no forest would ever recover from fire! Wood ashes might raise pH for a year and bone ash is likely to add potash. Neither should affect the tree.
