Plant watering.

Hi,

I’m a student living in Chandigarh, India. I have 20 different potted plants in my house. I’ve seen people watering their plants every morning. The thing is that they don’t care about the species and water the plants equally, no matter how aged the plant is. My question is, that on what parameters (for example, humidity, soil moisture, soil type, etc.) does the amount of water to be given to the plant depends? Also tell me a source from where I can look up, as to how much water a plant requires and the frequency as well depending on the parameters.

Do reply me with the parameters and if any source available.
