Q.Plant Protection Ideas

Can anyone suggest how best to cover small individual plants in the winter? I do not want to buy a big roll of fleece material. Would plastic bottles with holes drilled be any good or would they not stop the frost? Thank you for any ideas.

Clear plastic is not a good idea for winter protection because it would cause a greenhouse effect. On sunny days the plant inside the bottle would heat up which would cause it to repeatedly freeze and thaw. White, opaque plastic bottles could work though.

Other options for winter protection include leaf, straw, or woodchip mulch, or burlap:
