Question

Is this Oregano? If not, what is it?

I’ve recently become intrigued by growing food and started with herbs. This came from a ready pod that they you just plant and water. When it first sprouted I harvested way too early, but when I went to clean out the pot I found half the pod and a few seed so I replanted. It looks nothing like what was in there before and is far larger than anything I have googled, so I’m just wondering what is it?

This doesn’t look like oregano, but I am not sure what this plant is.

Oregano and many other herbs are members of the mint family. To test whether the plant is a member of the mint family, feel the stem- all mint family plants have stems with a square cross-section. If it doesn’t have a square stem, it’s not a mint and may not be edible.

Thanks for the information Alisma. It doesn’t have a square stem, and I was just starting to think it may not be edible because the stem as well as the leaves have hairs, some are soft but some feel like sandpaper. The pod was originally cilantro and when I went to clean the pot I found half the pod and 3 white seeds, so I replanted the whole thing. I feel this would have been potentially dangerous had it grown at the same time as my cilantro.
