Q.Pink Muhly Grass

Zone 46208 | Caroltomey702 added on May 28, 2018 | Answered

My pink Muhly Grass was planted and grew and spread perfectly. No blooms expected the 1st year. I cut back to 3-4 inches early Spring. It is June 1. No new growth. Are they dead? Late growth or? Watering?
Thank you!

Warm season grasses grow at their own rates and some start later then others. Sun, available moisture are all factors.
Try tugging at the roots; is it firmly rooted or pulls up (which can be root rot).
If it's well rooted, leave it in place for awhile yet.

Sometimes greenhouse-grown grasses flourish in the season they are planted, but fail to make it through their first winter even though they are rated as hardy.

I lost all but one grass clump this year myself.

Make sure you are in the appropriate zone for Muhly grass. Zone 6-9
