Pineapple sage pest problem

I moved a (potted) pineapple sage from my patio deck and placed it in the yard by a pole for it to climb on. Now I see something is chewing it to pieces. I can’t see any bugs. Any ideas what and how to get rid of them? Thanks for your help.

It is likely slugs. They come out at night a dine on plants and hide during the day, so you don’t see them. This article will help you with dealing with them:
