Q.Pickle cucumbers

Why are the skins of the pickle cucumbers we grew so tough? Not enough water? Thank you for any help.

Research says that the fruit should be picked within seven days or so of flowering. Left on the vine too long, the fruit becomes tougher. However, from experience, it may be that it's simply the variety you've chosen to plant. There are seeds available now for "burpless" cucs that may produce a more tender-skinned fruit. I don't think it's a watering issue. Perhaps this article will help:
