I have a Philodendron in my backyard that seems to have grown around a tree. Looking for suggestions for proper care

You can cut it back if you don't like the swirling limbs. It may be trying to climb, which it does in its native surroundings. You also could stake the trunk upright if you'd prefer it more like a tree. (I can't tell if there is more than one trunk.) Here is more on its care:
