Q.Persimmons and citrus trees

Zone 94533 | Anonymous added on May 8, 2017 | Answered

Both my persimmons and citrus ( calamondin) trees died during the cold freeze last December. Now I noticed there are leaves and sprouts growing from below the graft sites . Will they still bear fruits later ? Thank you for your response.

That is frustrating to lose trees over the winter months, or really any time we lose our trees that we labor over!

There is never any guarantee if or when you would have any fruit from the root stock.

If they do, it may not be a flavorful fruit or even the same type of fruit, as they use root stock that is hardy and not generally a fruit that is known for flavor.

Check with your local County Extension Office for a list of trees that are known to do well in your particular region.

I try to remind myself that a loss in the garden makes for new opportunities.
