perennial survival help needed

I have tried to plant several different types of perennials in the flower beds in front of my shed but it seems like whatever I plant there (i.e. Hostas, white daisy) dies or does not grow. This particular area gets part sunny and gets enough water from my in-ground sprinklers. I cannot figure out why, so I thought I would try to ask the experts. Could it be the bugs or urinating animals (no pets)? Any suggestions as to what I can do to save these plants and ensure their growth?

I would start with a soil test.
This can help you determine what is needed to amend the soil for success in your plantings.
Your local county extension office can help you with this.
