Q.Peat

Zone 97103 | Birder added on September 24, 2021 | Answered

PLEASE DO NOT RECOMMEND PEAT FOR PLANTING. Peat bogs are vital for our environmental health. Peat is unnecessary for plants. Being such a big gardening site, please recommend peat-free planting mix. Thank you so much! Robin

In order to provide information for all gardeners, for all preferences, and all regions, we must include information for gardening with peat. There are certain applications, such as with carnivorous flytraps and Nepenthes, that can, only, grow in peat. These cases will, also, require the use of it.

We do offer alternatives, as well, but to be fair to ALL gardeners we must offer information on peat, as well.
