Pear tree problems

We are noticing some splitting on the trunk of our 3 year old pear tree and some flaking of bark from branches. We have only 1 pear this year. We had a really wet spring and early summer and then it dried out by July and we may have neglected watering for a while. Is our tree dying? How should we proceed with caring for it?

I would watch the effected areas on the trunk for any signs of insects Also if the tree is stressed from environmental issues fungal disease is always a possibility.
Neem Oil is a good treatment and can even be applied as a preventative.
You do not want to cover the trunk at all, just allow it to heal on it’s own.
