peace rose

We have had a Peace Rose for about 5 yr. The first 2 years it did well. Since then the shoot on which it blooms dies. The original bush has died, and is now growing on small shoots coming up from the bottom. It has some blooms, but I am afraid that when these blooms are finished, those shoots will also die. It seems to do poorly when the weather is hot like it is now. It has been fertilized, watered and fretted over. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Well unfortunately it sounds like the original Peace rose you enjoyed has indeed died. The new canes coming up from the bottom are from the grafted root stock and are not the Peace rose at all. Depending on the root stock used, you could get some small to large flat red blooms. It would be best to dig it out and purchase a new Peace rosebush to enjoy again.
