Palm tree

Hi we had a tall ‘trunked’ palm tree in our garden which we thought had died following a prolonged covering with snow (we live in Scotland). We decided to employ a gardener to remodel the area where the palm was and as we thought it was dead asked the gardener to chop it down. Some while later the palm re-sprouted. Now we have a plant with several shoots which all continue to grow upward and outwards and have started to overwhelm all the plants around it. My question is how we would go about isolating one sprout and to encourage it to grow just upwards. I hope this makes sense and you are alike to help. I have attached a couple of photos. It should be possible to improve your palm’s appearance by isolating one trunk. In spring after the latest chance of frost, choose the trunk that is growing straightest, and remove the other shoots with clean sharp tools near their base. Adding a copper fungicide to the cut surfaces can help protect them- see some fungicide options at the very bottom of this article:
