Q.Pachysandra and Hosta turning paper thin and dying

I have pachysandra that is turning brown and dying and right next to it the leaves of mature hosta are paper thin with holes in them. Am wondering if it’s fungus or a disease.

Your pachysandra may have volutella blight. See the pics below. Remove the infected material and thin the bed.

Your hosta could have leaf scorch and snail damage or anthracnose. Here are descriptions that should help:
