overwintering Boston ferns

They will stay outside all writer, they are in hanging baskets, in a great place but I am concerned about our cold winter nights. We are in N CA. Will they like a frost blanket over them?

A frost blanket won’t protect the roots which ultimately decides whether a plant makes it through the winter. Here in an article on overwintering boston fern.
