Overwinder dahlia plants that have been grown from seeds

Question

I have read about growing dahlias from seed. I am in the process of doing so, however I have purchase several dwarf dahlias that I have some successful cuttings from. The assume these plants are from seed because on the one I took out, there is absolutely no sign of tubers.

In your explanation of how to produce tubers from seeded dahlia plants, you say only, repot the plant and allow them to go dormant for the winter. I am a novice and have NO idea what to do with the plant after being repotted. I know I must repot it before the first frost, which won’t be long, but once repotted, what are the instructions? What temperature over winter? How much watering if any? What kind of soil should I repot them in? Do the leaves fall off? I have no idea what allowing them to go dormant means. I’ve googling but have found nothing about young dahlias.

Sure would appreciate some help here. Frost is coming soon, so an answer pronto would be great!

It can be a bit overwhelming at first, but they will be somewhat tolerant of mistakes. I have found an article for you that will give you a little more specific detail. If you are ever in doubt, you can just grow then in container and keep them as you would a standard houseplant.
