Overgrown Quince shrub and root control

Question

I have a quince shrub in my garden close to my neighbours fence, it has to be over 10ft tall and I want to cut it down, I am also worried about the roots that maybe spreading into my neighbours garden and causing her problems(she’s told me that they aren’t at the moment) the bush is only about 2ft from her fence. I have only realised this year that it is a quince, because of the fruit that it has suddenly produced – a great deal of it! I have no use for it at all. If I just cut it down I think that it may grow again along its root path, and then my neighbour might not be so happy about it! (I’m sorry I couldn’t get the whole height into the photo).
What should I do please.

If you are determined to cut down the tree, there are two ways to kill the root system and prevent re-sprouting and continued root growth:

1. manual digging out of the entire root crown below soil grade, or
2. systemic chemical herbicide poisoning of the cut stump. (for example, apply glyphosate (Round Up) concentrate with at least 20% active ingredient to the cut stump surfaces immediately after making the final cut. The chemical will be taken in to the circulatory system of the plant and kill the entire root system.)
Follow the product label instructions for safe and effective use, or hire a professional tree and landscape service which employs a pesticide applicator.
