Q.outdoor schefflera plant

Zone Hudson, Florida | tbar added on February 8, 2018 | Answered

I live near tampa, florida and my scheffalera plant is about 10 foot tall and we had a frost/freeze this winter (down to about 28-30 degrees for a few hours). ALL the leaves have turned black and are falling off. Should I cut the stalks back all the way to the ground and hope it comes back? It’s a beautiful plant and I hate to lose it.

I would wait until the threat of cold weather has passed before pruning this up. This will give it the best chance at survival. It is best to wait until you see new growth before you try and fix it.
