Q.Orange Bamboo Nandina……AKA: Gulf Stream Heavenly Bamboo

Zone Poolesville, MD | Anonymous added on April 7, 2023 | Answered

WOULD LIKE TO KNOW OF IT’S OK TO CUT OFF THE BERRIES THIS SHRUB PRODUCES. I DO LIKE THE BERRIES, BUT, I UNDERSTAND, THERE SHOULD BE THE BEST TIME TO CUT THEM OFF. I WAS TOLD THEY PRODUCE SEEDLINGS THAT FALL TO THE GROUND, AND, I WOULD LIKE TO PREVENT THIS BEFORE THEY PRODUCE SEEDLINGS. SINCE I HAVE SIX OF THESE SHRUBS, IT’S A LOT OF MAINTENANCE TO REMOVE LOADS OF SEEDLINGS FROM THE GROUND. PLEASE LET ME KNOW THE BEST & SAFE TIME TO PRUNE THEM OFF? YOUR PROMPT RESPONSE WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANK YOU!

You can trim off the berries at any time. They are poisonous to wildlife so there is no need to keep them around for the birds. Gulf Stream may not always produce berries. Here is more:
