Q.watermelon plant fruit splits

Zone 9 Visalia, Calf | dianereed added on July 9, 2015 | Answered

I’m growing watermelon in a pot. When the fruit gets to be about the size of a softball, it splits almost in half. Why is this happening?

I am not sure if it's the same as tomatoes but I know tomatoes will split like that from inconsistent watering! If your watermelons are getting really dry and then you water or over water it may cause them to split
