If you really don't want to take the tree out yet, you can try and help it to slow down progression. This just requires perfect care. Otherwise, I'm seeing signs of a dying tree. I still see sap and I see lichens on the tree. They don't harm the tree directly , but it can be a sign that the tree is on its way out. If it were me- I'd probably take it out. Unless you can get it under full control, there is a chance that it could spread.
