Old Timer Purple Speckled Peas ??

Tree years ago I planted Old Timer Purple Speckled Peas, the 1st. year they came just like the name purple hull, speckled. 2nd. year some came green hull/ tan when dry, speckled pea. Saved some and planted 3rd. year and came same green/tan hull & speckled peas much like the old Whippoorwill pea. I am not complaining I would just like to know if these are a Purple Hull/whippoorwill cross or what. E-mailed seed company they said history was unknown. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

It sounds like you have obtained all of the information that you can. Your guess is as good as anyone else's! All that you can say with certainty is that it is an unstable hybrid. You will have to cross a few of the progeny, on purpose, to give you clues about what lies dormant, as you know what traits are dominant, now.
