Old Mock Orange

My Mock Orange is at least 30 years old. It is still producing lovely blossom each spring but it it is about 12 foot high and the lower branches are bare and scraggy. My good lady wife wants to tidy it up so the question is how severe a cut back will it stand without killing it?
