Oak trees

Question

For the past 30 years we have had an oak tree growing in a small pot in our garden. Around last year we moved it to a larger pot as we have always had it in a small pot due to the fact we do not want it growing large and out of control in our garden. It is still too small to grow acorns (about a meter or so in height) but yet in the pot next to it (about 30cm away) somehow another acorn tree has grown, despite the fact we did not grow the acorn tree in that pot before and there have not been any acorns placed into it. I was wondering if anyone on this site may know how this happened and, if so, they could possibly give me any answers or ideas as to how it happened, as me and my family are very curious and confused. You likely had a squirrel (or some other nut hording animal) visit you last year and bury an acorn it had found elsewhere in the pot (for safe keeping, which it then promptly forgot). This is how many nut type trees get planted, by squirrels “planting” them to store them, then not coming back for them.
