oak leaf hydrangea

Question

my plant has lots of big,large green leaves but no flowers.Why?

Hydrangeas are somewhat fickle. They like some sun but not too much and more moisture than many plants but not too much. They won’t bloom for a variety of reasons but these are the most common: they are situated in deep shade; they were pruned in winter or early spring thus removing the bloom buds; they are getting too much fertilizer (a light application in May or June is all that is necessary); the soil was allowed to dry out. Buds are more sensitive than leaves to severe winters, hot sun and dryness. Rabbits, deer and squirrels eat the buds for winter food. Lastly, a new plant may take several years to acclimate before it will bloom. If all that checks out, it may be one of those years. Like I said, hydrangeas can be fickle.
