Here is a link for you to an article I wrote for Gardening Know How on this subject. Be sure the top of the rose has not died and the root stock taken over, this can happen and sometimes the rootstock sends up shoots that do not bloom at all or for a couple years. They will not be the same color or as pretty as the top part of the rose that is the desired rose, this applies to grafted rosebushes only.
