Q.No Beans

Anonymous added on July 2, 2011 | Answered

I have pole beans planted along a trellis. My plants are healthy and full. I have harvested a handful of beans, but now the plants have just stopped producing. It has been over a week since I have seen any beans at all. What has happened?

Pole beans take several weeks longer to start producing than bush beans. Be patient. Sometimes vines do not start producing until early August. Also, be sure to not over fertilize, especially with nitrogen, as this promotes more foliage and less blossoming. Instead, use a fertilizer high in phosphorus, with about a 10-20-10 ratio.
