How can I prevent leaves from dropping off of my fig tree? I obtained the plant one year ago, and the older leaves remain; however, new growth keeps dropping off at the stem.

It sounds like it may have tip blight (also called twig blight). It is generally caused by a fungus but you can get similar symptoms if the plant has thrips. I would recommend that you treat the plant with neem oil. It is both a pesticide and a fungicide, so it will take care of both issues, regardless of which is causing the tip blight.
