Q.New Azalea Shrub

Zone Aiken, SC 29803 Zone 8, i believe | Anonymous added on August 22, 2021 | Answered

I planted a small azalea shrub this spring. It has grown a tiny bit, but I’m wondering if it will make it through the fall/winter

It should do well. Just maintain the plant well mulched with 2-4” of mulch all year around. And maintain the soil as evenly moist as you can. Your last fertilizer application should be 3 months before your average date of first frost. Most azaleas are deciduous so do not panic if it loses foliage in the fall. In my mild winters, I water them if winter is dry.
