I have this plant growing in my garden, with a plum like fruit.

Could you please tell me if this fruit is edible?

It may be a blackthorn tree whose fruits are relished by birds. Do not eat anything unless you are certain of its identification. I suggest taking a branch to a local agricultural group or a nursery, especially a native plant society or nursery to try to get an exact identification.
