Navel Orange trees

I have two 25′ navel orange trees. I had several tons of small decorative rocks delivered and my landscapers placed the rocks right up to my tree trunks and they get plenty of water. My neighbor has 3′ rock free wells around his grapefruit trees. What is best for my trees please ….rocks or wells?

I would advise a rock free well around the base of the trees. Mulch or rock should be kept from the trunk of the tree.
