Q.Narrow Area And Wanting To Give It Some Color With Low To No Maintenance Plants.
I have an area between 2 fences and nothing but weeds grow. I want to put weed blocker fabric and mulch down and put potted plants on top of the mulch for low maintenance. I’m 66 and prefer not to put plants into the grown. What is the best plants to use in an area that is sunny in the morning but shady in the afternoon. Was thinking of hostas but need a suggestion on something colorful to alternate with it. The last photo is what usually grows there but in the 1st two you see what I’ve already cleared. Thanks for any suggestions.

Since you are in zone 5b, you would need plants rated for hardiness zone 3 to leave them in pots over the winter. That reduces your selection. I wouldn't use any pots that would crack during the winter like pottery. You might consider a groundcover planted inground.
