my yucca only has leaves at the top

Was given the plant 3 days ago and it has only one stem about 5ft and the trunk is bare only has leaves at the top. How can l make the leaves grow up the trunk? If i cut it in half, can I repot the half with the leaves on and will the other half grow? What do I do?

Yuccas, especially potted ones, often lose leaves as they grow, ending up with only a few leaves at the top. One of the reasons is that the root space is limited, and since each leaf needs a certain amount of root, leaves are limited too. Yuccas also root easily, so you can actually make several new plants. You can cut the cane into pieces (6″ is probably the smallest you should use) and mark the end that is toward the bottom (root end) as you cut. The top piece will have the leaves,
