Q.My Wisteria Appears to Have Died

Anonymous added on May 19, 2014 | Answered

It is May and our 6 year old Wisteria vine has no buds whatsoever. There is a very small growth at the base of the vine. The vine has leafed out and bloomed each of the past few years earlier than this year. We had a semi colder winter than normal, but not extended freezing. We live in Richland, Washington. Does this happen often?

The plant could be suffering from crown gall. This article will help determine if this is the issue: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/vines/wisteria/wisteria-diseases.htm If crown gall is not the issue and the vine is still alive and seemingly ok otherwise, I would just give it more time. It may be taking it a little longer to come back after this past, cold winter.
