Q.My Winterized Container Fig Tree Is Budding Out In January In MN. What Should I Do?
This is the first winter for my fig tree that I started from a cutting from an established tree. It went dormant as expected in the fall. I put it in a lower level craft room that’s dark and stays around 60 degrees. I seldom go in the room for more than 5 mins, but did have a project that took a couple hours a day for 4-5 days spread out Nov. and Dec. So the tree got light but temperature stayed 60 degrees.

If you have a sunny window you can move it too that would be fine or if you have a grow light. Since it is coming out of dormancy early, additional light would help prevent the new growth from being yellow.

They will start to get leaves before you can put them back outside. You are just ahead of the game. I would just leave it till you can safely move it outdoors.

GKH_SUSAN Thank you for your response/help. Should I go ahead and put the tree in a sunny window (as sunny as you get in MN) or put a plant light on it?
