My two, ten-year-old Montmorency cherry trees are beautiful but have never set fruit. Every year the tiny pea sized green cherries

shrivel and fall off. What is wrong? I live in the panhandle of Texas and it doesn’t matter if I water or don’t, fertilize or don’t. Please help. I am desperate for the cherries I grew up with from my parents’ trees, the ancestors of these.

Non-bearing problems are usually the result of climate or cultural issues. Do you have your tree under a regimen for watering, fertilizing and pruning? Do you have other cherry trees nearby for cross pollination (sweet cherries need them, sour cherries do not).

There are serious viruses, such as green ring mottle virus, that could be affecting your trees, but there's no way of knowing from here. The problem may be something as simple as pollination.
